NS45 has a meeting the first Wednesday of each month. -Most of the
year we have meetings in the Chemeketa Community College
Planetarium, unless otherwise specified on the club calendar.

CCC Arrival Instructions
| 1. Stop at the Information booth
(#12 on campus map) to see if a parking pass is necessary 2. At the Information booth, press the intercom button and tell them that you are there for the "Astronomy Club meeting". 3. A parking permit will be given to you if necessary 4. Park in the "Blue Lot" ' 5. Enter Building 2 from the Blue Lot side 6. As soon as you enter the doorway, take an immediate right and find the entrance to the Planetarium |
Star Parties
NS45 plans a Star Party once a month.
During good
weather we will usually meet on a Saturday, during or just prior
to the new
moon. Check the calendar.

Stargate Summit
At an elevation of 2500 feet in the hills of the Coast Range just 7 miles beyond Falls City,
we like to call our local dark sky observing site Stargate Summit.
(within one hour of Salem)
The land is owned by Weyerhaeuser
Company who graciously allow us to use it.

STARGATE SUMMIT - From Salem: 1: MARION ST NE becomes OR-22 W. 2: Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto OR-223/DALLAS RICKREALL HWY. 3: Turn SLIGHT LEFT onto S MAIN ST/KINGS VALLEY HWY S/OR-223 S. 4: Turn RIGHT onto SW WASHINGTON ST/KINGS VALLEY HWY/OR-223. Continue to follow KINGS VALLEY HWY/OR-223. 5: Turn RIGHT onto FALLS CITY RD. 6: FALLS CITY RD becomes N MAIN ST. 7: Check your odometer and look for the following landmarks--- Mileage Landmark What To Do 8: 0.0 Bridge at west end MAIN ST. Turn LEFT, cross bridge 1.6 Road Gate [you are on track] 9: 4.4 Fork in road at "10 1/2" Tree Stay RIGHT on main road 6.1 Road Gate [you are on track] 6.8 "8" Tree (orange spray paint) [get ready to turn] 10: 7.0 Road 8-7-34.3 (see small sign) Turn RIGHT 11: 7.2 second road to clearing on top of hill Turn LEFT at fork Welcome to Stargate Summit at 2500' elevation!

The site is within one hour of Salem.
UNION HILL - From Salem: 1: EAST ON HIGHWAY OR-22
2: TAKE the STAYTON-SUBLIMITY EXIT
3: Turn LEFT
4: DRIVE about 3 MILES to and through Sublimity
5: Turn RIGHT onto OR-214 SILVER FALLS HIGHWAY
6: DRIVE about 3 MILES,
Landmark: Note the T-intersection with Carter Road. Continue straight 025 miles
7: At the SECOND BEND IN LARGE S-CURVE, see paved road on the left (Union Hill Road)
8: TURN LEFT on UNION HILL ROAD
9: DRIVE about 1 MILE to top of hill
10: At TOP OF HILL see tree lined cemetery ON RIGHT SIDE
11: Go past cemetery to graveled Parking area where we observe.
We have been given permission by the owner, Mr. Lassen of Albany, to use this location anytime we want to. We do not need to call to get permission, and any individual or group can go there anytime. |
